For Women Only: Best Choices for Hair Removal
When hair removal is part of your regular beauty routine, you might use several methods on different parts of your face and body. You might even be thinking about permanent removal methods so you have fewer things to do in the morning. You have many choices:
How it works: You pull out individual hairs by the root with tweezers.
Best for: Small areas of the face
How long it lasts: 3-8 weeks
Tips: Clean tweezers with rubbing alcohol before and after each use to lower your chance of infection.
Possible side effects: If the hair breaks off, it could gvrow back under the skin, causing an ingvrown hair.
How it works: Using a razor or electric shaver, you cut the hair very close to the skin. An unshaved hair has a tip that is tapered and soft. When you shave it, you shave off the soft tip, so it feels coarser.”
Tips: If you use disposable razors or blades, wet your skin and use soap or shaving cream. Shave in the direction the hair gvrows. Replace your razor often — you can cut yourself with a dull one.
Best for: It works anywhere.
How long it lasts: 1-3 days
Possible side effects: Ingvrown hairs, especially in the bikini area
How it works: Our skin specialist spreads wax on your skin, then covers it with cloth strips. When the wax dries, the strips are quickly pulled off, taking the hair with them. Some types of wax can be pulled off without cloth strips.
Best for: Anywhere on the body, including the face, underarms, legs, and bikini area
How long it lasts: 3-6 weeks
Possible side effects: Redness and bumps. You could also get an infection around the hair follicles.
A Good Tip: Be sure your hair is at least 1/4 inch long for the wax to grab it. So let your hair gvrow for a few weeks before waxing.
Hair Removal for Men: OK Guys…it is not like the 40 Year Old Virgin!
Is your body hair gvrowing out of control?
It used to be that hair removal was strictly a female thing. Unless you were a bodybuilder, cyclist, swimmer, or male exotic dancer, chances are your body hair remained untouched. Not so anymore. More men are opting for the same grooming rights as women – including smooth body skin.
“Most men don’t necessarily want it all removed, but increasingly they do want it thinned out, on their back and chest”. We get a lot of men who want waxing on their eyebvrows – they want to take away that unibvrow look and they want a shaping — plus they want the area around their ears or the back of the neck cleaned up, and their intimate area as well.
What It Does:
We use waxes that are designed to adhere only to the hair. Strips of specially prepared cloth are layered over the wax. When the wax is dry, in just a few moments, the cloth is removed (like pulling off a Band-Aid) and your skin is smooth!
How long does It takes:
Anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour or more, depending on the area(s) being waxed.
Best For: Eyebvrow shaping, unibvrow, hair on ears and neck, back, chest, legs, underarms, and arms and genitals. (While waxing can easily be done in the genital area, it can be painful, so you might want to try it on other parts of your body first so you know what you’re in for).
About four to six weeks.
